The Construction Industry Federation (CIF) has launched a "Constructing Your Future" video competition to highlight the opportunities available to young people through a career in the construction sector.
Transition Year, Leaving Cert Applied and Youthreach students across Louth who are currently undertaking work placements in the construction sector can enter the competition. Students are encouraged to share what they have learned on work experience in a short video to be in with a chance to win.
According to Dermot Carey, Director of Safety and Training at CIF, “we want students in Louth and across the country to spread the word about working in the construction industry. Did you learn something? Did you enjoy your experience? Then tell us, tell your friends and you might even win a great prize.”
Second level students on work placement in a construction business can submit any video idea from a ‘highlights’ video to a daily diary documentary or anything in between. There will be prizes for three lucky winners; a €400 Ticketmaster Voucher, a GoPro Camera or Apple AirPods.
Students can learn more and submit a video at www.cif.ie/constructing- your-future/. The deadline for applications is April 21st 2023.
Feedback within the construction sector, the CIF says, consistently highlights the challenges facing companies and businesses to recruit enough staff in recent years. As part of its latest ‘careers campaign’, the CIF is reminding local businesses and companies across Louth to support young people looking for second level work experience wherever possible to promote the sector locally and encourage more young people to consider a career in construction.
“In every town and county across Ireland there are second level students looking for work experience every single year.” according to Dermot Carey, Director of Safety and Training at CIF.
“Local builders and construction companies are well placed to nurture local talent, show them what options are available and encourage them into the industry. We are hoping more and more second level students get to experience the work for themselves and that it sparks an interest for them in the construction sector.”
