An urgent meeting of Dundalk 0327 UNITE Branch was recently convened, at the request of the UNITE Representatives and Strike Committee in Cargotec, Dundalk.
The meeting was unanimous in its total solidarity with the Industrial Action and also agreed to fund High Viz Jackets, Hats and Arm Bands for the 200 strikers, along with pledging other additional funding requested.
Willie Quigley, Secretary of UNITE 0327 Branch which the workers are members of, said the Branch fully understands the grave concerns the members have with the recent TUPE of a section of the membership in the plant.
Since the meeting Cargotec and UNITE have agreed to third party talks due to take place this week.
In response to the strikes, Cargotec has stated that the strike actions are “groundless,” and that the legality of the TUPE transfer was also established in emergency WRC talks in December 2022.
The company also stated that under TUPE regulations the employee terms and conditions remained “fully protected” and that there was no risk to job security.
