The Ulster Scots Society Belfast recently donated a boulder and plaque commemorating The Battle Of Faughart to  the Faughart Community Group

The Battle Of Faughart took place in 1318, and during the battle the last 'High King' of Ireland, Edward Bruce, was killed.

Edward was the brother of the King of Scotland Robert Bruce and  some of his remains ( he was hung and quartered ) are buried in Faughart Graveyard.

There will be an official unveiling of the  boulder in the near future and it is hoped to have  a direct descendent of Bruce's in attendance.

Faughart graveyard also has the ruins of a mediaeval church and St. Brigid's Holy Well. It is also thought to be the birthplace of St. Brigid.

The graveyard also has the best view of Dundalk and has amazing 360 degree views of our locality both North and South.
