The industrial dispute between over 200 workers at the Cargotec (formerly Moffett Engineering) facility in Dundalk over a “TUPE” (Transfer of Undertakings Protection of Employment) process has been resolved.
Following a vote by members, the Unite union accepted proposals put forward by an independent mediator.
The dispute arose from the transfer of a number of employees to a subsidiary company of Cargotec with the union alleging this had been done without sufficient consultation.
Cargotec said that this was not the case, and that they had consulted with the union and that the process proceeded in accordance with employment law.
The dispute resulted in two days of strike action in March which saw Unite workers at the facility picket.
Following this both parties engaged in third party talks.
In a statement to the Democrat a spokesman for Unite said:
“Following two days of strike action by Unite members in Cargotec, mediated proposals were put forward which members voted to accept.”
Contacted for comment Cargotec released a statement saying:
“Cargotec is pleased that agreement has been reached on the recent dispute with Unite following a Transfer of Undertaking which took effect on 1st January 2023.
“We now look forward to working with all of our employees to ensure we maintain our position as a global leading provider of load handling solutions.”
