Louth Motors: Alfa "Ar Ais"

Louth Motors: Alfa "Ar Ais"

Alfa Romeo

When you think Alfa Romeo you think petrol and you think sporty cars.

Well, they may be late to the electric party but they have embraced it fully now and all Alfa Romeo cars will be electric by 2027.

That may feel like a dagger to the heart for some but fear not. Sportiness and driver enjoyment will always be their primary objective and it's going to be interesting to see how that Alfa Romeo DNA is honoured and continued.

Which leads nicely to the new Tonale. First shown in 2019 it is finally here in Ireland. It's a premium SUV battling the Audi Q3, BMW X1 and Mercedes GLA. Indeed buyers of Range Rover Evoque's and Volvo XC40's will be casting an eager eye over it as well.

I got a short spin in it and won't make any rash judgements other than it feels like an Alfa Romeo and the cabin interior is a match for any of the competitors.

The line-up consists of two models a 1.5 mild hybrid and a full PHEV. Two trims are fuatured - Ti and Veloce with a launch model special called, wait for it, Speciale that is sure to be snapped up.

Hope is it might even remain as a permanent offering. Prices are suitably premium and start at €49,995 for the MHEV Ti.
