Planning refused for housing development in Tallanstown

Louth County Council has refused a planning application for a housing development in Tallanstown that was seeking to build six new houses.

Rainberry Limited had applied in February, to the local planning authority for planning permission for the material change of use of lands at Glydeview, Rathbrist, Tallanstown to construct six two storey, three bed, semi-detached dwellings.

The planning application had also provided items including the upgrading of open space to provide a football/play area, and connection and extension to existing road and footpath network.

A number of submissions hade been made objecting to the application, including one from Glydeview Residents. Louth County Council made the decision to refuse planning permission for the development on 17 April. In the Chief Executive's Order refusing planning, it stated that the site of the proposed development is located within a residential estate granted planning permission under a previous planning application.

The Order stated that "it is considered that the proposed development would materially contravene the conditions and terms of the planning permissions for the overall residential estate as the proposal would encroach on land which has been designated public space to serve the entire development.

"It is, therefore, considered that the proposed development would seriously injure the residential amenities of the existing dwellings through the loss of this established public open space and would set an undesirable precedent for other similar inappropriate developments in this estate and would, therefore, be contrary to the proper planning and sustainable development of the area."
