Louth County Council's pothole machine, JCB Pothole Pro, is in operation in north Louth today, with work currently being carried out in Greenore.
Dundalk Municipal District councillors had been pressing the Council on when it would be in the north of the county to carry out work on potholes locally, after operating in the south of the county for some time.
Cllr Maeve Yore sought an update on when it would be arriving in the north of the county at the Dundalk Municipal District May meeting, with Senior Executive Engineer, Paddy Connolly confirming that it would be arriving the following day.
Louth County Council became the first local authority in Ireland to introduce the new pothole fixing machine, which is said to dramatically reduce the cost of pothole repair work.
The innovative, high-powered technology works by cutting, planning and sweeping the road before filling defects with hot asphalt for a long-lasting result.
Designed to operate safely and efficiently in congested urban areas, Louth County Council say the Pothole Pro, which can cover up to 250m2 per day, will maximise performance across Louth’s 1,614km road network.
Cllr Antóin Watters shared photos on social media today of the machine in operation in Greenore. Commenting on Twitter today, Cllr Watters said. "Great to see @louthcoco New JCB Pro on site in Greenore this morning dealing with a large pothole that I raised back in January."
