After a superb weekend for the Louth Senior Footballers in Croke Park, Ciaran Downey now has a little extra to celebrate after being named the GAA.ie Footballer of the Week.
The Newtown Blues attacker had a starring role for the Wee County, notching seven points as they accounted for Offaly to book their place in the Leinster Football Final.
In a public poll on the GAA's Instagram site, Downey managed to fight off the challenge of Derry's Shane McGuigan, who bagged nine points in his team's win over Monaghan, and Andrew Murnin from Armagh, who played a huge role in the Orchard County's victory over Down.
Meanwhile, four Louth players have been named in the GAA's Team of the Week. Downey, alongside Sam Mulroy, Tommy Durnin and Niall Sharkey were all rewarded for their heroics in HQ.
The men in red had the second most players in a 15 that also contained five from Derry, three from Armagh and one apiece from Offaly, Dublin and Kildare. The team in full can be found below.
