The Coláiste Chú Chulainn Junior Boys basketball side that was defeated in the All Ireland Semi-Final
There was disappointment but pride as Coláiste Chú Chulainn's Junior Boys missed out on a place in the All Ireland Basketball final. They were defeated in the end by a strong Cross and Passion College from Kilcullen, 40-27.
"The Dundalk lads have done incredibly well all season and have been a credit to themselves as well as our school" stressed their coach Mr Kelvin Slowey.
"They took inspiration from the Under 19s who lost out in the All Ireland semi final and the Under 16s who won an All Ireland final this year. Everybody in the school is proud as punch of the team.
"A tough day on the court and a few mistakes here and there meant that our boys had a tough day. They played against a very well drilled and organised team from Kildare who gave it their all, but you could not fault our lad's effort."
Despite the defeat, Slowey lauded both his team and the overall basketball program in Coláiste Chú Chulainn, which is continuing to produce some serious talent.
"They played until the final whistle" he stressed.
"Most of the Junior squad are overage next year so they will be graduating to U16 level, but there is a young core still present who will try and push on next year and achieve even more success for our school. That’s the end of the school’s basketball playing season but not the training."
