Louth Ladies give away home advantage to avoid Leinster Final clash

An action shot from Louth's home clash with Wicklow. Their clash with Westmeath was due to clash with Louth's Leinster Final appearance in Croke Park, but will now take place on Saturday instead

While the Louth Footballers historic run to the Leinster Final is what is dominating the thoughts of GAA fans across the county, Mickey Harte's troops are not the only team in action next weekend.

The Louth Ladies team have been tipping along nicely this year. Recording a decent Division Three league campaign, before starting the championship season with a huge win over Wicklow in Cooley. They play again later today, making the trip to the Midlands to face Offaly in Clara (Throw in 2PM).

Kit Henry's side were due to host Westmeath on Sunday, a tie that would've overlapped with the action in HQ. This of course was going to effect attendance, given so many in Louth will be making the trip to Croke Park to support the men.

However, after speaking with both Westmeath LGFA and the Leinster Council, a compromise was reached that will now see the teams clash on Saturday instead of Sunday. Louth agreeing to play at a neutral venue as a gesture of good will for their opponent's agreeing to the change in date.

"Due to the GAA Leinster Final taking place next Sunday May 14th and the fact that it clashes with our Leinster Championship game with Westmeath, Louth LGFA have negotiated a change of date to Saturday evening" announced county chairman Liam O'Neill in a statement released last night.

"We realised that this was putting a lot of people under pressure, including the players who want to go and support their male colleagues. And rightly so, as do we all.

"Westmeath were very accommodating with this request, and although it was meant to be a home game we accept that a half way house is a fair compromise in this instance. The game will now take place in Ballinlough Co Meath at 5pm on Saturday the 13th.

"We also thank the Ballinlough GAA Club for facilitating this fixture as well as the Leinster Council and we encourage a good travelling support to go along for what promises to be a very important game."
