International Nurses Day 2023 is being celebrated once again in our hospitals in Louth.

International Nurses Day will be marked on Friday May 12th in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Drogheda and Thursday May 18th in Louth County Hospital, Dundalk.

This celebration takes place annually on the birthday of Florence Nightingale.

International Nurses Day is celebrated around the world to mark the contributions nurses make to society. This year the theme is ‘Our Nurses; Our Future”.

Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital will celebrate this day with a ‘Festival of Nursing’ celebrating the inclusivity and diversity of our world class nursing team.

There will be posters, stands, quizzes with spot prizes throughout the day.

The wards and units are focusing on “The Building Blocks of Nursing” and will have posters on display highlighting what is important to their area of expertise.

Members of the public will have the opportunity to view much of this work, which will be on display in both hospitals over these dates.

Many special guests will visit the hospital on the day including his Excellency, Ambassador Akhilesh Mishra, the Indian ambassador to Ireland.

The Director of Nursing, Mr Adrian Cleary said: There are just over 1,000 nurses employed across our hospitals.

"The care, compassion and commitment delivered by individual nurses and nursing teams has, and will continue to be, at the very heart of healthcare delivery ensuring access to quality healthcare for all.

"On International Nurses Day, we celebrate that contribution to our community and to our society in general."
