Two further SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division fixtures have been selected for live broadcast on RTÉ2 in May and June, including a tie involving Dundalk FC.
RTÉ2 will broadcast the North Dublin Derby between league leaders Bohemians and Shelbourne at Dalymount Park on May 26th, while defending Champions Shamrock Rovers will host the Lilywhites at Tallaght Stadium on Friday June 2nd.
The news comes off the back of another batch of TV coverage for the league of Ireland after news came earlier this week that Virgin Media will broadcast five additional games before the end of the season.
The annoucement comes after the successful broadcast of Shamrock Rovers’ win over Bohemians at Dalymount Park in the Dublin Derby back in April, which included impressive build up throughout the week in the lead up to the event.
"Both sides agreed that the original one match experiment was a great success, a feeling echoed by our title sponsors SSE Airtricity whose wider support remains key as well" stated Football Association of Ireland CEO, Jonathan Hill.
"We will be looking at all broadcast models moving forward, but one thing is clear in that to attract more interest into our broadcast product we will continue to need to invest both into the on-field look and feel (quality of pitch, floodlights etc).
"But also in the modern broadcast facilities we will need to have in place moving forward to maximise broadcast interest, which will in turn generate the income to drive our ambition for League football in Ireland to become an industry in its own right and for our stadia to be modern, welcoming homes for our existing and many new fans."
Two fixture details are already confirmed. As well as the Saints’ visit to Tolka Park on Friday May 19th, St Patrick’s Athletic will also host Derry City at Richmond Park on the June Bank Holiday Monday at a new kick-off time of 18:45, live on Virgin Media Two.
Another announcement on their three outstanding fixtures will be made at a later stage in the season.
In a further boost for LOI fans, two more SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division fixtures will be broadcast by RTE Sport on June 9th and June 23rd, with fixture selections to be announced at a later date.
