Cllr John Reilly has expressed his delight with the construction of approximately 120 metres of additional footpath outside the former Carnbeg Hotel on the Armagh Road in Dundalk.

The new footpath will link up with the existing one, which stretches all the way out to the Lisdoo end of the road in Dundalk.

The Dundalk-Carlingford has been pushing for the new footpath for sometime now, having risen the matter at Louth County Council meetings on several occasions

Cllr Reilly claims the new footpath will improve safety for pedestrians, not only the asylum seekers currently residing in the hotel, but the local community who also would be regular walkers of the area.

The local councillor adds that the previous footpath situation was "extremely hazardous" and was an "accident waiting to happen".
