Senator Erin McGreehan extended her congratulations to Glenmore AC for hosting the come and try athletics day for children with Down Syndrome.
Senator Erin McGreehan who is a member of the club and was a volunteer for the event congratulated her club mates and Chair of the club Kenneth McBride.
The event hosted by Glenmore AC on their track at Bush Post Primary School was in conjunction with Down Syndrome Louth Meath.
The event aimed to promote fitness and well-being for children with Down syndrome and other additional needs in the local community.
The main aim was to provide all children, no matter what ability, to experience athletics in a fun and encouraging way.
Senator McGreehan said:
“Athletics is a sport that can be really inclusive, it doesn’t matter your ability there is a place for all at our club, we continue to encourage and facilitate sports for all and we thank the parents who trust us and bring their children to the track”.
As part of the event, the athletes competed and experienced many track and field events, including sprints, and long jump, turbo javelin and shot put.
The club hopes to encourage children of all abilities to participate and engage with a sport that is known for boosting physical health and mental well-being.
McGreehan speaking about the event said that:
“It is a wonderful experience to be part of such a welcoming club, a club that understands that athletics and sport should be experienced by everyone in our community.
“Families came from Dublin and that shows you the need for more of these days and experiences. I will continue to encourage at a national level that funding is provided specifically to support clubs to run days like this and deliver coaching on a regular basis for all children”.
