Dundalk court: A truck driver charged with a fatal collision pleaded guilty

A 55 year old truck driver charged in connection with a fatal collision with a car on the main Dundalk/Greenore Road has pleaded guilty at Dundalk Circuit Court.

Arturas Dorsa with an address at Manor Crest, Glen Road, Monaghan admitted dangerous driving causing the death of Paul Sheelan at Loughanmore, Jenkinstown on March 2nd 2021.

After he was arraigned last Friday morning, his Defence barrister Vincent Heneghan SC told the court his client has no previous or subsequent convictions, and while still employed, is on an illness 'sabbatical', and he believed it would be appropriate to refer him to the Probation Service.

Mr Heneghan also indicated that a further count will be required, which he said can be held over to the sentencing date.

Judge Dara Hayes directed the preparation of a Probation report and remanded the defendant on continuing bail to June 27th.

Having been told that Mr Sheelan's family would appreciate the matter being progressed with as much pace as possible, Judge Hayes said if the Probation report is available on the next court date he would fix a sentencing date before the end of the sitting on July 7th and if not, it will be adjourned to October.
