There was a great turnout from the members for the four person 18-hole team event held earlier this month to celebrate the centenary of the club’s move from Deer Park to Blackrock in 1922-23 and the creation of the first 18-hole golf course in the
Dundalk area. The clear winners with 98pts were Seamus Kelly, Richard Barry, David Corrigan and Anthony McGuinness who had six points to spare over a team that featured President Paul O’Reilly.
The Ladies Team Prize was won by Anne McArdle, Nora Byrne, Maura Coyle and Geraldine Mohan who shot 84pts while 41pts was enough for Patrick McKeown, Brendan Cunningham, Peter Cunningham and Brian Kearney to take the nine-hole team prize.
Daniel Woods (24) was the leading qualifier for the matchplay stages of the 2023 Gold Medal competition after shooting a 69 nett in qualifying. He took the accolade on countback from Conor Curran (2) and will now face Senior Panel member Ciaran Johnstone in the first round.
Woods had five pars during his round at the seventh, eighth, 12th, 14th and 18th while Curran had five birdies at the first, sixth, seventh, 10th and 11th.
They finished one shot ahead of four players – Neal MacKell, Chris Clarke, Dermot McKenna and Connor McCaughey – who finished on 70. The cut line fell at 76 (39/25) and the 64 qualifiers now face a summer of matchplay to determine this year’s champion.
