James Meenan, (27) from Greenacres has been selected to represent Team Ireland at the Special Olympics World Games set to be held in Berlin between the 17th June to the 25th June.

James is due to fly out on the 12th June and will be playing up front for Team Ireland’s soccer team, which as a big football fan is a dream come true for him.

This won’t be his first time representing his country as he has previously represented Ireland at the World Games in Los Angeles in 2015 and returned with an amazing haul of medals which included a Gold in the 100 metres, Silver in The 4X 100 metres relay and a Bronze in the 200 metres.

A member of the Newry City Special Olympics Club, he has been training out of The Gym on the Avenue Road in preparation for the games and has been travelling to train with the national team since he was selected at Christmas.

James works at Vida Living and his colleagues have been very supportive all the way and have been organising fundraising events.

His mum Eileen, younger brothers Kevin and Leo and dad Liam will be cheering him on along with all his family and friends who are all wishing James the very best of luck and will be hoping he can add to his hoard of medals.
