Sinn Fein councillor Antoin Watters raised the issue of traffic management at Carlingford/Cooley beaches during the recent good weather at Tuesday's meeting of Dundalk JPC (Joint Policing Committee).
Councillor Watters said he understood that it was a very hard thing to police and asked if it would be possible for the gardai to sit down with some of the local groups to come up with a solution.
“Every year we get it over the good spell of weather. Is there anything we can do that maybe we’re not thinking of, something that might be a simple solution. I know we were due to meet with Cooley Community Alert, we could maybe look at using that facility to raise issues like that.
“We’re not going to be able to address it this year, we can only encourage people to be careful and to respect the area they are going into, but it is something that needs to be looked at overall.”
Superintendent Charlie Armstrong said he would be seeking advice from Superintendent Majella Armstrong of the Raheny Garda District to discuss how gardai there have dealt with recent incidents in their area and would get back to the councillor.
