COOLEY KICKHAMS 1-15 LANNEIRE 4-2

Cooley Kickhams came out on top in an extraordinary game against Lannleire in Fr McEvoy Park last Thursday evening.

Despite trailing by five points at the break, the hosts dominated that second half and with the help of 1-6 from Michael Rafferty they went on to claim the victory.

Cooley raced into an early 0-6 to 0-0 lead, but then between the 12th and 23rd minutes of the opening half Lannleire scored three goals.

Ian Mulroy, Bob Murphy and Kyle Van Rhijn found the back of the Kickhams net, with Van Rhijn's effort particularly well taken following a terrific solo burst from the middle of the park.

Cooley added a couple of points in reply, however with half time approaching Paul Doyle found the back of the net with a fine strike for Lannleire's fourth goal to send his team in at the break leading by 4-1 to 0-8.

It was looking like Lannleire’s night when they scored the opening point of the second half from a Paul Callan free, but thereafter they failed to add to their tally.

At the other end, Cooley took inspiration from a Rafferty goal nine minutes into the second half and went on to earn the win with the aid of three points in the dying minutes of the match.

SEAN MCDERMOTTS 1-16 DOWDALLSHILL 0-8

Sean McDermotts picked up their first win of the Division 3B campaign when they defeated Dowdallshill at St Brigid’s Park last Tuesday evening.

The home side also went into the game looking for their first points of the season, but they rarely looked like getting off the mark and as a result remain bottom of the table.

It was a good night for Marty Duffy and Stefan Halpenny, who helped themselves to a combined total of 1-11, with the former scoring the only goal of the game to end the tie with a fine total of 1-6.

The duo were in good scoring form from the outset and their points helped the visitors to a very healthy 0-10 to 0-2 lead at half time.

The hosts were more competitive in the second half with Paul Gill bringing his tally to three points for the night, while Niall McManus contributed a brace.

However, the Seans were never under any serious threat and Duffy’s goal sealed a welcome victory.
