Louth Fine Gael TD, Fergus O’Dowd, has welcomed news today that an additional €2million has been secured to complete the tender process for the long awaited Narrow Water Bridge.
The Louth TD, who also serves as Chairman of the Oireachtas Committee on the implementation of the Good Friday Agreement, said:
“It was confirmed to me that the monies have been approved by cabinet this morning and will be delivered through the shared island fund.
“The tender process for the project commenced on the 21st of April and is due to conclude in October.
“The 280m long bridge will span counties Louth and Down and will be the realisation of a long term commitment that was contained within Fine Gael’s 2020 General Election Manifesto.
O’Dowd added:
“This funding is in addition to the government’s allocation of €3m in June of 2021 to bring the project to tender stage.
“This bridge will provide a welcome boost for cross border tourism and trade and will improve our connectivity north and south.”
