Cuchulainn Archers secure two gold medals at prestigious event

Cuchulainn's Philip Fitzpatrick taking part in the Buttercup Arrowhead Competition

Last weekend saw the Buttercup Arrowhead Competition take place. Hosted by Ballyvally Archers, Banbridge, the event is held in the lovely Whyte's Estate, Loughbrickland, County Down.

Six archers from CúChulainn Archers club made the trip to this competition, which comprised of 24 targets at unmarked distances, with the different bow styles shooting from different coloured pegs.

This type of competition is truly challenging, as the archer has to guess the distance and, if the person misses the target, the dreaded arrow hunt begins. Arrows can be quite expensive, so losing one is not something an archer enjoys.

The results for CúChulainn were as follows: John Keenan landed 1st place in Compound 50+ category (Red Peg),
Alan Convery bagged 2nd the Compound Men (Red Peg) and Philip Fitzpatrick just missed out on a medal when finishing fourth in the same competition.

Siobhán Keeble won the gold medal in the Women's Barebow (Yellow Peg), while Gilbert McClelland clinched 2nd (Blue Peg) and Neil Keeble (Blue Peg) bagged 5th in the Men's Barebow Men.

Siobhan and Neil were really pleased with their results, Siobhan because this was her first competition of this type, and husband Neil because he received his Arrow Head Award.

CúChulainn Archers hold Beginner Courses throughout the year. All enquiries to cuchulainnarchers@hotmail.com.
