There has been an increase in the number of people signing on the Live Register in social welfare offices across Louth, according to the latest figures released today by the Central Statistics Office (CSO).
3,637 people signed on the Live Register in Dundalk in June, an increase of 172 on May 2023, representing a 5% increase on the month before.
In Ardee, 850 people signed on in June, an 8.1% increase on the 786 who signed on in May.
In Drogheda, 3,462 people signed on in June, up from 3,372 in May and representing a monthly increase of 2.7%.
On an annual basis however, there has been a decrease, albeit relatively small, in the number of people signing on in Louth. 7,949 signed on the Live Register in social welfare offices in Louth in June 2023, down from 8,021 in June 2022, representing a decrease of 0.9%.
Looking at the State figures, the seasonally adjusted Live Register total for June 2023 was 182,700 persons, up by 100 or 0.1% from May 2023. The unadjusted Live Register total stood at 184,879 persons for June 2023.
Commenting on today’s publication, Conor Delves, Statistician in the Labour Market Analysis Section, said: "There were 22,993 people benefitting from the EU's Temporary Protection Directive included in the Live Register figures for June 2023, an increase of 183 from May 2023.
"The number of persons on the Live Register for one year or more in June 2023 was 65,909, down 1,577 from a year earlier. There were 118,970 persons (64.4%) on the Live Register for less than one year."
