MANNAN CASTLE SENIORS

Despite the somewhat damp weather, a large contingent of seniors teed up for the weekly Mannan Castle Seniors competition. Held over nine holes, the scoring was very competitive with some challenging pin positions.

Liam Kenny had his first success since joining the seniors with a countback victory, scoring 21 points. The foundation of his win was the three-par 5's, where he recorded two pars and a birdie for 11 points.

In category one Philip McGovern had an impressive round, also carding 21 points. He had no less than seven pars on his card. A bogey 5 on the index 1 sixteenth was probably his undoing.

Category 2 winner Peter Sloan will also rue the sixteenth, where a triple bogey seven resulted in a no score and any chance of victory. His final score of 20 points was still an excellent round.

Senior Results 27th June 9 Holes (9 hole playing handicap) - Overall: Liam Kenny (12) 21pts c/b. Category 1: Philip McGovern (5) 21pts, Category 2: Peter Sloan (12) 20pts.

MANNAN CASTLE LADIES

This week’s winner was Louise Hanratty, our lowest handicapped female golfer. One over par on the front nine, her round included nine pars and two birdies which is incredible golf, but then with a playing handicap of six, you must be accurate in every aspect of your game.

In second place, Eilish Crawley did very little wrong. Playing steady golf, she hit the fairways and stayed out of trouble. Eilish’s short game was just fantastic, and she put on a chipping and putting demonstration.

Third place winner this week we have Marie Conlon, whose an inspiration to many of us. She took up golf later in life and now she never misses a golf competition. Wednesday mornings rain deterred many ladies from playing, but not Marie.

A huge thanks to O’Rourke Oil, Ivy Lane, Carrickmacross for sponsoring our competition again this year. Your sponsorship is really appreciated. We remind our members to support our sponsors.

O’Rourke’s Oil 18-hole Strokeplay – 28th June: 1st Louise Hanratty (6) 70 nett, 2nd Eilish Crawley (29) 71 nett, 3rd Marie Conlon (48) 72 nett.
