NAOMH MAIRTIN 0-9 ST MOCHTAS 0-7

Naomh Mairtin stretched their lead at the top of Division 1 with a 0-9 to 0-7 victory over St Mochtas at Monasterboice on Tuesday night.

The Jocks were three-point winners when the teams met just two weeks ago and once again this was a very close contest, as this time the gap was down to just two.

On a night when Sam Mulroy kicked four points, the Mairtins had the better of the first half and went in leading by 0-5 to 0-1 at the break.

The Mochtas came back strongly in the second half and saw Declan Byrne bring his tally to four points. Darren McMahon and Sean Flynn were also on the scoresheet but the Mairtins made sure of victory on a night when Conor Whelan and Stephen Campbell were also on target.

GERALDINES 1-18 MATTOCK RANGERS

Geraldines got phase two of the Division 1 league off to a winning start with a 1-18 to 1-14 victory over Mattock Rangers in Collon on Tuesday night.

In a game where the teams traded some well-taken points, it was the visitors who always appeared to have the slight edge. A goal from Shaun Callan helped the Gers lead by 1-10 to 1-6 at the break, with Cathal Fleming finding the net for Mattock.

The second half saw the Geraldines manage the game well as they maintained their four point advantage to the end. Paul Smith and Paddy Hoey were among the points for the Gers, while Oisin McKenna, Ben McKenna and Shane Hickey found the range for the Collon men.

DIVISION 1B ROUND 12

NEWTOWN BLUES 5-16 O'RAGHALLAIGHS 1-6

Newtown Blues put their disappointing run of form behind them with an emphatic 5-16 to 1-6 win at home to the O Raghallaighs.

The North Road side went into the game looking for a first win of the league season, but from the early stages they were facing an uphill task as the Blues dominated.

At half time the hosts were leading by 1-10 to 0-2 and they pressed home their advantage in the second period with a further four goals. Ciaran Downey (2), Declan McNamara (2) and Ciaran Branigan found the net for the winners, while Andy McDonnell finished with five points.

SEAN O'MAHONYS 2-11 ST FECHINS 0-9

Sean O’Mahonys recovered from their defeat on Saturday evening as they turned in an impressive display to defeat St Fechins at the Point Road.

In the end it was 2-11 to 0-9 in favour of the hosts and their chances were boosted by a first half display that saw them lead by 1-7 to 0-4.

Terry Kelly and Sean Cassidy scored the goals while Kelly also added seven points to his tally. The winners also had points from Stephen Kilcoyne, Brian McGuirk and Ben McLaughlin.

Ryan Walsh led the way for the Fechins with four points, while Adam Kirwan, Lee Grifferty, John O’Connell and Mark Holohan were also on target.

DREADNOTS 1-13 ST BRIDES 1-5

Dreadnots made it five wins for the Division 1 campaign when they proved too strong for St Brides in Clogherhead.

The Knockbridge side went into the game hoping to leapfrog their opponents in the table, but the hosts were better on the night and deservedly came out with a 1-13 to 1-5 win.

Conor Shevlin scored the goal for the winners, while Craig Shevlin and Carl Monaghan scored three points apiece. Conor Clarke and Aaron Scullion were also on target for the winners.

Andrew Smith scored the Brides goal while Emmet Kirk (4) and Paddy Reilly accounted for the points.
