Over 700 house commencements in Louth so far this year
Work began on 707 new homes in Louth in the first six months of this year, according to monthly data on the number of Commencements Notices (residential construction starts), published on Thursday by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.
67 Commencement Notices were received in by the Dept between January and June of this year for commencements in Louth, with 16 issued in June. 13 were issued in May; seven in April; 12 in March; 12 in February; and 7 in January.
Looking at the breakdown of the 707 residential units commenced between January and June, 207 were commenced in June; 293 in May; eight in April; 123 in March; 48 in February; and 28 in January.
Comparing the figures so far this year to the first six months of 2022; 450 residential units commenced in the first six months of 2022 in Louth. 809 residential units commenced in the whole of 2022 last year in the county.
Of the 207 units commencements in June, 11 were single residential units. There were five single residential units commenced in May; six in April; eight in March; nine in February; and four in January.
Nationally, Commencement Notices for 2,574 new homes were received by Building Control Authorities in June 2023. This is an increase of 25% on the number of new homes commenced in the same month last year (2,060 units).
The strong uptick in commencements in Q4 2022 and Q1 2023 has continued into Q2 2023. 15,561 homes have been commenced in the first six months of 2023.
This is a 10% increase on the same period last year and a record when compared to similar periods since the data series began in 2015.
