Louth motorists to be affected by M1 road closures

Louth County Council has shared details today of Meath County Council's plans for the temporary road closure at night-time, of the M1 motorway to facilitate ESB and resurfacing works.

Meath County Council has made an order for a Temporary Road Closure to close sections of the M1 Northbound from Junction 9 to Junction 10, the M1 Southbound from Junction 10 to Junction 7 and the M1 Junction 7 & Junction 8 roundabouts, slips roads, approach roads (R132 at Junction 7 and R152 & L1606 at Junction 8), Co. Meath, in accordance with Roads Act 1993, Section 75 and Part VIII of the Roads Regulations, 1994.

The closure will be over a 17 week period from 8 August to 30 November, 2023. Louth County Council has shared maps of the diversion route here. The planned diversions are as follows:

M1 Northbound from Junction 9 to Junction 10 for 1 night – within the period 8th August 2023 to 14th August 2023.

Mainline Diversion using the following national, regional and local roads; L1601 Drogheda (Donore Road), R132 (old N1), N51.

Diversions will be in place, at night time only, between the hours of 20.30-05.30. 

M1 Southbound from Junction 10 to Junction 7 for 1 night – within the period 8th August 2023 to 14th August 2023.

Mainline Diversion using the following national, regional and local roads; N51, R132 (old N1).

Diversions will be in place, at night time only, between the hours of 20.30-05.30. 

M1 Southbound from Junction 10 to Junction 7 for 2 nights – within the period 14th August to 30th September.

Mainline Diversion using the following national, regional and local roads; N51, R132 (old N1).

Diversions will be in place, at night time only, between the hours of 20.30-05.30. 

M1 Northbound from Junction 9 to Junction 10 for 2 nights – within the period 14th August 2023 – 30th November 2023.

Mainline Diversion using the following national, regional and local roads; L1601 Drogheda (Donore Road), R132 (old N1), N51.

Diversions will be in place, at night time only, between the hours of 19.30-06.30. 

M1 Junction 7 & Junction 8 roundabouts, slips roads, approach roads (R132 at J7 and R152 & L1606 at J8) for 7 nights – within the period 14th August 2023 – 30th November 2023.

Mainline & Local Diversion using the following national, regional and local roads; Junction 5 (R132), Junction 6 (R122), J10, N51, R132 (old N1), L1601 (Donore Road).

Diversions will be in place, at night time only, between the hours of 19.00-05.30. 

The total duration of the roadworks is expected to be 17 weeks, during which time the motorway mainline, interchange slip roads, roundabouts and side roads may be closed.

Contingency has been included in the 17 week period to allow for disruption to works due to weather conditions etc. and the local authority says that every effort will be made to complete works in less than 17 weeks.
