Cllr Pearse McGeough at building set to be re-developed in Castlebellingham
Sinn Féin Councillor Pearse McGeough has welcomed Kearney’s Building in Castlebellingham being earmarked for development into six two-bedroom units.
Cllr McGeough said: “This building has been an eye sore in the middle of the village for some time now.
“Within the last six months I had to request safety guttering be put along the top of it to catch falling tiles and debris before they hit the pavement and possibly a pedestrian.
“Thankfully, it is now going to be developed into much needed housing and in the form of two bedroom units which are in very short supply.
“It is in the pre-planning stage at the minute and that is welcome.
“It will also lift the aesthetics of that part of the village which has become very run-down over the past few years.
“I want to commend Louth County Council for their pro-action on vacant properties as they have reached out to a number of owners whose buildings in the village have fallen into disrepair and dereliction.
“Developments like Kearney’s Building will hopefully kick-start the regeneration of Castlebellingham that is badly overdue.”
