Louth Labour TD Ged Nash is launching a targeted survey to better understand and address the challenges faced by the charity and voluntary sector in our region.

The survey will focus on key issues including Section 39 pay disparities, staffing shortages, feedback from those utilising services, operational difficulties and broader challenges within the sector.

Deputy Nash said: “This research aims to provide a well-rounded view of the current state of the charity and voluntary sector and the critical challenges it faces in the midst of a cost of living crisis and housing shortage in the country.

“The initiative underscores our commitment to strengthening this vital community sector whilst advocating for guarantees to increased and sustained support from the State.

“As we move forward in these challenging times, it is paramount to remember the fundamental role that charities and voluntary organisations play in supporting our communities.

“The sector provides vital services to our most vulnerable, and their work is deserving of both our recognition and tangible support.”

Deputy Nash added: “Our aim is not only to highlight the invaluable work done by these organisations but also to underscore the need for greater and more sustained State support.

“It is past time we give the charity and voluntary sector the attention and resources it needs to thrive, as its success is intertwined with the well-being of our communities.”

The Louth Labour TD said: “The survey will be distributed to various stakeholders in the sector throughout our region.

“The findings will be used to help our strategies and advocacy efforts as we work to ensure the sector receives the support it deserves.

“We hope for great engagement among the local charity and voluntary sector and if there are organisations out there that haven’t heard from us, please contact my Drogheda office.

Deputy Nash concluded: “We look forward to engaging with our local organisations through this survey. We are committed to ensuring their voices are heard, their challenges are addressed and that their invaluable work is appropriately valued and supported.

“We hope to use the information we gather in this local survey to put pressure on the government to address the long-standing issues in the sector and treat the people who work within it fairly and equitably.”
