Smiles and sunshine at Gaelcholáiste Dhún Dealgan Summer Camp

Students having lots of fun at the Gaelcholáiste Dhún Dealgan Summer Camp

There was great excitement as students returned to Gaelcholáiste Dhún Dealgan for another camp this year.

As many as 17 students from five different primary schools attended this Summer Camp in late July.

This action-packed camp was conducted through Irish with the emphasis on learning Irish in a fun and natural way.

Students explored subjects such as Home Economics, Physical Education, Science, Art and History. Caoimhe Héarún, Deputy Principal of Gaelcholáiste Dhún Dealgan said: "These camps allow students with an interest in the Irish language to get to know one another and build a sense of community.”

Micheal O’Coigligh from Home Hub Belfast gave a very special hip hop dance workshop towards the end of the week.

The highlight of the camp was a BBQ and gathering of friends at Gaelcholáiste Dhún Dealgan.

Students got to show off their wonderful work including their newly designed and painted picnic benches.

The food was prepared by the students themselves along with parents and friends of Gaelcholáiste Dhún Dealgan.

Gaelcholáiste Dhún Dealgan is a co-educational, multi-denominational, multi-cultural, secondary school and it is opening its doors to First Years this September.

This new Gaelcholáiste is under the patronage of An Foras Pátrúnachta, the largest patron of Irish-medium schools.

Caoimhe and her team of teachers will be based in Dundalk.

They have nearly 40 years teaching experience between them.

There are spaces available for sixth class students and you are invited to register on www.gcdd.ie.

It is not a requirement that a child attends a gaelscoil. Gaelcholáiste Dhún Dealgan is the only school in Co. Louth where students can receive their secondary education through Irish.

This small school community will allow for individual care and attention as well as extra support for language development, a school spokesperson said.
