NAOMH MAIRTIN 2-13 MATTOCK RANGERS 1-10
Naomh Mairtin completed an unbeaten league season when they scored a 2-13 to 1-10 victory at home to Mattock Rangers on Wednesday night.
The Jocks made it 15 wins from six outings as they warmed up for the Cardinal O’Donnell Final meeting with St Mochtas on Sunday.
The league leaders were made to battle throughout the game and with the help of points from Sean Healy, Sam Mulroy and Val Leddy, they led by 0-7 to 0-3 at the break.
The Collon men got it back to two points early in the second half, but the Mairtins took control when Mulroy made up for an earlier missed penalty by slotting home the first goal of the game to make it 1-11 to 0-6 at the start of the final quarter.
Mattock responded with a goal from Ruairi Hickey, but Mulroy’s goal on 53 minutes settled the issue, despite Liam Flynn finishing with four points for the visitors.
ST MOCHTAS 2-7 ST PATRICK’S 2-14
Second placed St Mochtas completed their season with a 2-14 to 2-7 defeat at home to St Patrick’s in what proved to be an entertaining affair.
After an even opening to the game, the Pats eased ahead with four unanswered points before David Lennon’s goal had the hosts back in the game. However, just before the break, Sean Fearon found the net for the Pats to give them a 1-8 to 1-5 lead at half time.
The peninsula side continued to hold the upper hand in the third quarter and a goal from Tadhg O’Connor gave them breathing space. Ben Goss Kieran pulled a goal back to give his side some hope, but the visitors went on to win by seven points.
Cathal Grogan, Eoin O’Connor and Martin McEneaney were among the points for the winners, while Cormac Smyth, Declan Byrne and Conor Garland also contributed scores for the Mochtas.
ST MARY’S 2-18 GERALDINES 1-7
St Marys head into the championship campaign on the back of a winning end to the league season as they recorded a 2-18 to 1-7 win over Geraldines in Ardee.
Liam Jackson and Ryan Rooney did most of the damage for the winners as Jackson finished with 2-2 while Rooney fired over six points in what was a comfortable win in the end.
The Mary’s didn’t have it all their own way in the opening half, as a goal from Brian Cafferty kept the visitors in contention as they trailed by 0-10 to 1-3 at the break.
However, the second half was dominated by the men from Ardee as they eased to victory on a night when Ronan Carroll, Tadhg McDonnell and Kian Moran were also on target. Paul Smith, Ben Gartlan and Josh Arrowsmith were among the scorers for the Geraldines.
