Dundalk Rotary Club members honoured with awards

The Rotary Club of Dundalk honoured two of their members, Stephen Gunne and John Igoe with 'Paul Harris Fellow Awards'.

This is the highest honour a Rotarian can receive in Rotary and it is for outstanding service to the organisation.

Stephen Gunne has been a member of Dundalk Club since 1997 and prior to that he was a member of the Rotary Club of Monaghan. 

During the two years of Covid, which he was President of the Club and supervised many projects during this difficult period keeping members together through zoom meetings.

John Igoe has been a member of the Rotary since 1998.

For the last 19 years he has been co-ordinator of the Monday Meals on Wheels project, which is a major project with the club delivering between 70 and 80 meals every Monday.

He is also responsible for the Christmas Day dinners is Last Christmas Day, with 32 dinners delivered last Christmas Day.

The Rotary motto is 'Service above Self' so the Club made a number of charitable donations during the year.

They donated €3,000 to Shelter Box for the earthquake in Turkey. 

A Shelter Box consists of a six person tent, six beds, six sleeping bags, a table and six chairs, and cooking facilities.

Rotary Ireland also sent 63 generators to Ukraine. One of these were donated by Dundalk Rotary.
