Cllr McKevitt calls for Greenore Bus Stop to be reinstated

Cllr McKevitt calls for Greenore Bus Stop to be reinstated

Cllr Andrea McKevitt

Cooley Peninsula based Cllr Andrea McKevitt has written to Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) on behalf of complaints from residents in Greenore, to request that the bus stop serving the residents of Euston Street and Anglesey Terrace be reinstated with immediate effect.

Cllr McKevitt told the Dundalk Democrat that, originally, the 160 Bus Eireann bus service Dundalk - Newry would come down Euston street and stop at the designated bus stop.

However, she said, over the evolution of the street, with more residents and businesses, resulting in more parked vehicles on the street, the bus was doing their pick up and drop off at the top of Euston street along the main road, which she adds, is most feasible and understandable.

The Fianna Fáil councillor said that in more recent times, the bus stop has since been relocated completely to the Carlingford Lough Ferry terminal, which she said is not ideal, when the most densely populated area of Greenore is within the village itself. The ferry is only operational at weekends in October and finishes up for the year until the following March when the tourist season kicks off again.

"The people of Euston Street and Anglesey Terrace, have expressed to me their annoyance about the removal of the bus stop which has served the village, its inhabitant, and visitors for a long period of time and without any prior notice", Cllr McKevitt commented.

"As a councillor for the area", she added, "I have written to TII, to convey the concerns of the people of Greenore and I have requested that they reinstate the Bus Stop at the top of Euston Street along the main road."
