Coláiste Cú Chulainn student to represent Dundalk in Rotary Ireland Youth Leadership competition

Coláiste Chu Chulainn's Irina Da Silva Godinho,  has been selected as the Dundalk representative in the Rotary Ireland Youth Leadership Competition.

The announcement was made at the annual Dundalk Rotary luncheon in the Ballymacscanlon Hotel on Monday 6th November, and it comes after numerous weeks of interviews of students from nine secondary schools in the area.

Irina was delighted with her selection and said: “I am proud to represent the area in this competition. The interviews and selection process was tough but enjoyable.

“It was interesting to meet Rotarians and discuss with them y hopes for young people in Ireland and across Europe. the mix of their wisdom and young people's enthusiasm was very encouraging. 

Irina will now represent her school and the Dundalk Rotary club at the regional stage of the competition which takes place on Wednesday 22nd November. This is Coláiste Chú Chulainn's first student to make it to this stage of the competition.

Mr Kelvin Slowey, Irina's mentor for the competition said:“Leadership skills are central to school life. Young people are encouraged to lead and have ambition to change the society we live in where it needs change.”

The Rotary Ireland Youth Leadership Competition is one of Rotary's longest running youth projects and has been going on for over 25 years.

The competition lets young people enhance their personal development by improving their communication and teambuilding skills.

It gives students a platform to gain confidence in public speaking and debating as well as meeting students from around the island of Ireland.
