Louth County Council's new pothole fixing machine, the JCB Pothole Pro, got to work in Dundalk this week repairing potholes in places including the Seafield Lawns estate.
Louth became the first local authority in Ireland to introduce the new pothole fixing machine, which is expected to halve the cost of repair work.
The innovative, high-powered technology works by cutting, planning and sweeping the road before filling defects with hot asphalt for a long-lasting result. It can cover up to 250m2 per day, or up to 700 potholes a month.
Designed to operate safely and efficiently in congested urban areas, Louth County Council said when bringing the Pothole Pro to the county, that it will maximise performance across Louth’s 1,614km road network.
The machine had been in operation in the south of the county for some time this year, before moving to work in the Cooley Peninsula and is now in operation in Dundalk.
The JCB Pothole Pro has been part-funded by the Department of Transport.
