Ged Nash, Labour TD for Louth and East Meath has welcomed Minister Simon Coveney's decision to act on his proposal to put flood financial relief for businesses on a permanent statutory footing.

Deputy Nash commented: “I raised this directly in the Dáil and have been informed by the Minister that following my suggestion, his department officials have begun to develop a proposal to place flood relief schemes on a permanent statutory basis so that government can respond quicker to catastrophic flooding events such as those which occurred at Halloween across the Cooley peninsula and around the county.

“The minister informs me that to-date, only 11 businesses in Louth have applied for the flood relief scheme for businesses.

"The enhanced scheme can provide support of up to €100,000 to businesses, community, voluntary and sporting groups that have been impacted by recent severe flooding events. The closing date for applications is December 15th.

“I encourage all who have been impacted and who think they may qualify to make contact with the Irish Red Cross and apply for reimbursement of initial costs up to €5,000 under scheme A and €10,000 under scheme B."

More information and details on how to apply can be found on the Irish Red Cross website https://www.redcross. ie/flood-support-scheme/
