Sarah McKenna is looking back over 20 years of trade shows as she prepares for Showcase 2024, Ireland’s International Creative Expo opening in the RDS, Dublin on the 21st to the 23rd of January.

Showcase is Ireland’s foremost exhibition for design and craft, highlighting the best of creativity and artisanal excellence in the country, attracting trade buyers from overseas and from all over Ireland.

Sarah said: "I am truly lucky to have made a living from my passion. I love making one-off pieces and commissions for individuals, but I love to share - so selling my work to shops and galleries around Ireland and further afield makes that so much easier."

Sarah has assisted at a few trade shows before she took the leap with Showcase in 2004. She said she has learned so much over the 20 years.

She continued: "Even though I have attended many tradeshows in Ireland and even a few in the UK, I still get nervous.
“There are a lot of moving parts in a successful show and I always worry that something could go wrong.

"I am bringing a brand-new collection to the show, and of course, it is down to the wire in preparing that!"

Sarah’s new ‘Blossom Collection’ is inspired by a William Cullen Bryant quote. “There is no glory in star or blossom till looked upon by a loving eye; There is no fragrance in April breezes till breathed with joy as they wander by.”

This reminds us to stop and admire the beauty around us in everyday life.
The collection includes two vases, a tealight holder and wall art.

Sarah has been creating unique handmade Irish pottery for over 20 years in Bridge Street Studios, a 250-year-old grain store, on Bridge Street in Dundalk.

Sarah creates custom and personalised pottery works for her customers, with options ranging from wall art, vases, plates, and platters, to candle holders, lamps, and bowls.
