Niall McCreanor, the Social Democrats nominee for the upcoming elections
The National Transport Authority (NTA) has officially agreed to reinstate the previously removed bus stop from the garda station in Dunleer.
This marks a significant victory for community members and the Social Democrats, a party spokesperson said.
The bus stop, which had been removed from official use by Bus Éireann, continued to be a point of ambiguity as buses for the 100 and 100X routes stopped there despite its absence from the official timetable.
The NTA confirmed that “the stop in Dunleer is on our list for the installation of a new Transport for Ireland (TFI) flag pole and will be prioritised for design and installation."
Niall McCreanor, the Social Democrats nominee for the upcoming elections, played a pivotal role in the reinstatement of the bus stop, the spokesperson said.
Mr McCreanor's intervention came after concerns were raised by the community, highlighting the need for clarity and accessibility in public transportation services in Dunleer.
"We are delighted to end the confusion surrounding this bus stop by making it official again," stated Mr McCreanor.
"This resolution stems from a member of the public reaching out to us, underscoring the importance of open communication between the community and the Social Democrats.
“We encourage others to engage with us openly so we can assist wherever possible."
Mr McCreanor also shed light on the financial aspects of the issue, noting, "it's interesting to find that the NTA had made funding available last year specifically for this type of issue.
“However, Louth County Council had failed to request any funding for this, or any similar project, anywhere in the county.
“This reinstatement not only serves the immediate needs of Dunleer's residents but also highlights the necessity for proactive engagement and funding allocation by local authorities to address public transport needs."
The Social Democrats' successful intervention underscores their commitment to improving public transportation and fostering community engagement, the spokesperson continued.
By facilitating the reinstatement of the Dunleer bus stop, they have demonstrated their dedication to enhancing the quality of life for local residents and ensuring that public services meet the community's needs.
The reinstated bus stop is expected to alleviate the confusion for passengers and ensure that the public transport system in Dunleer is more accessible and reliable.
