Dundalk street cordoned off for a time after discovery of "suspicious material"

Residents of the street along with residents of Peter Street & Quay Street were asked to evacuate

Barrack Street in Dundalk was cordoned off for a time yesterday after workmen found suspicious material on the grounds of a premises.

Residents of the street along with residents of Peter Street & Quay Street were asked to evacuate the area for a time while the scene was investigated. 

Early yesterday evening gardai announced that the cordon had been lifted and people were free to return to their homes while thanking the public for their cooperation.

A garda spokesperson said: 

“The security alert, prompted by the discovery of suspicious material by works personnel on the grounds of a premises on Barrack Street, Dundalk, this afternoon, February 22nd, 2024, has been resolved. 

“The cordon has been lifted.”
