Volunteers at the clean-up last year
People are being asked to celebrate World Earth Day by taking part in a major clean-up operation in Rockmarshall on April 20th from 12 to 2pm.
This annual event is run by the local An Taisce National award winning Peninsula Marine Litter Project who are hoping to bring many other groups together on the day to take part in the clean-up.
The plan is to start under the bridge opposite Fitzpatrick's Bar and Restaurant and work towards Lordship.
“This has been the most littered area in recent years so all support is appreciated”, said, Michael Muckian, Chairperson of the Cooley Peninsula Community Alert and Peninsula Marine Litter.
“Already we have volunteers from the Louth Volunteer network attending alongside the local tidy towns groups , schools, GAA clubs and employees of businesses like O'Connor roofing and we would be delighted to welcome other groups.
“We would ask as many as possible to come and take part in a community event and network with others while cleaning the environment.
“It's a excellent opportunity to educate children and suitable for all ages.
Bags, pickers and gloves will be supplied, and the Community Alerts quad and trailer will be used to being these back to a central point to limit any carrying by volunteers.
