Louth dog owners warned to keep pets off Blue Flag beaches during certain hours

Dog owners in Louth are being warned not to bring their dogs onto Blue Flag beaches between certain hours.

According to Louth County Council, the animals are banned from the beaches between 11am and 6pm every day between June 1 and September 15.

In a statement posted online, a spokesperson said, "Let’s keep our beaches clean and enjoyable for everyone!"

The rule is in place as bathing water can be contaminated by dog faeces.

Dog owners should place dog poo in the bin when at the beach or, if a public bin cannot be found or is full, litter must be brought home and disposed of there.

The beaches at Port, Templetown and Clogherhead in Louth are all Blue Flag beaches, an award which is bestowed annually to the cleanest beaches in the country.
