Dundalk Sub Aqua Search and Rescue were urgently called out to a beach near Dundalk town yesterday, as a dolphin was found stranded following a high tide.
The search and rescue group found the dolphin stranded on Rockmarshall beach, after being called by the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group.
The busy beach was quiet at the time, so multiple members of Dundalk Sub Aqua were able to promptly get to work uninterrupted.
Wet towels and buckets of water were quickly placed on the unfortunate sea creature, who was luckily uninjured after being washed ashore.
Dundalk Sub Aqua then carried the dolphin into the sea, and walked the creature out to the safety of the deeper water.
Dundalk Sub Aqua shared footage of the dolphin in a post online, saying there were "lots of sandbanks for the Dolphin to get stuck on along the way".
"The team kept with the dolphin until he was out to Dundalk Bay," club spokesperson Margaret McCarthy said.
"It was great to see him safely on his way."
