'No words' - Nathan Carter leads tributes after sad death of popular Louth man

Country music star Nathan Carter has led tributes after sad death of popular Louth man Peter Hanlon.

Peter was the father of up-and-coming country singer Jenny Hanlon and had become good friends with Nathan Carter in recent years.

Just last year Nathan said, "I look forward to following Jenny’s career as I believe she has great potential." Peter will be sadly missed by his wife Frances, daughters and sons Margaret, Jenny, Patrick and Peter Jr., grandson Luca, brother Michael, sister Bridie, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

When news of Peter's death filtered through, Nathan Carter posted a photo of him with the caption, "no words today." He later added: "Peter Hanlon RIP my friend! You were 1 in a million! Thinking of all your family & friends today!"

Further tributes have been paid to the popular man from Muchgrange, Greenore, Co Louth. 

One condolence from McElvaney Motors on RIP.ie said: "We are all deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Peter.

"Peter was a very valued customer of ours, and we had the privilege of working with him over the years. He was an absolute gentleman to deal with. He will be truly missed, and his impact on all those who had the pleasure of knowing him will not be forgotten.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the Hanlon family and all of the staff at Hanlon Transport at this incredibly difficult time. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a h'anam dílis."

Another friend wrote: "Peter my auld buddy, so sad to hear of your passing. I’ve so many fond memories over the years that I’ll cherish. Our thoughts, prayers & heartfelt condolences go to all the family and wide circle of friends."

A third added: "Sincere condolences to Frances and the Hanlon family on the sad loss of Peter. He was a great man who will be missed by many. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time. May he Rest in Peace."

Funeral Arrangements

Removal on Sunday, September 15th, leaving Quinn's Funeral Homes, Bridge Street, Dundalk at 8pm, proceeding via the Greenore Yard of Hanlon Transport (Eircode A91 NT93) to the family home to repose on Sunday evening for family only please. Reposing at the family home (Eircode A91 K578) from 12 noon on Monday and Tuesday, September 16th and 17th for public visitation. Removal on Wednesday, September 18th at 10.30am, to the Church of Our Lady, Star of the Sea, Boher, arriving for Funeral Mass at 11am. Burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
