Bus Éireann launched their 'Fill a Bus for Meals on Wheels' appeal in Dundalk on Thursday, 28 November.

The national bus company is supporting Meals on Wheels Dundalk this Christmas and their 'Fill a Bus' campaign saw them appeal for contributions for the elderly and those with mobility issues in the area.

On Thursday, Bus Éireann reserved a bus for the day to accept donations from members of the public at Dundalk bus station at The Long Walk. From 9.30am to 3pm, locals stopped by the bus to share their donations to the important cause.

Some of the non-perishable goods donated by people included tea, coffee, powdered custard, tins of fruit, creamed rice, gravy granules, stock cubes, cooking oil as well as useful household products such as paper towels, tin foil, scouring pads, washing up liquid, disinfectant spray and disposable gloves.

Commenting on the campaign, Chairman of Dundalk Social Service Council/Meals on Wheels, John Hennessy, said: "We are delighted to partner with Bus Éireann on the 'Fill a Bus' campaign again this year and thank them for their continued support.

"These vital donations will be going directly to the people who need them most, we are continually grateful to the people of Dundalk for their generosity in supporting our Meals on Wheels service. We are currently in a position to look at the possibility of increasing our meals capacity to 120 recipients throughout the town of Dundalk."

Bus Éireann's Senior Regional Manager, Eastern Region, Adrian O'Loughlin, said: "Bus Éireann are proud to support Dundalk Meals on Wheels with our 'Fill a Bus' appeal this year.
