Joanna Byrne celebrating in the count centre in Dundalk
Sinn Féin's Joanna Byrne, who was the second person to gain a seat in Louth with 11,989 votes, said she was “delighted for her team and the people of Louth”.
Byrne, who celebrated being elected with her party colleagues Ruairí Ó Murchú, Cllr Antóin Watters and her campaign team, said: “I am really, really delighted.
“I am delighted for me, delighted for my team who ran a strong campaign, and for the people of Louth who now have another champion that will work hard to deliver on the issues that are affecting them.
“We ran a very strong, vibrant, strong campaign that offered hope, that offered an alternative to the change people are crying out for.
“The aim is now to go out and do what we can to deliver that change that people need.”
