Roe River Books on Clanbrassil Street
An Táin Arts Centre’s monthly Book Club returns this month and members are reading The Brief and Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Díaz.
The Book Club has been going strong since April 2020 and now meets in Roe River Books on Clanbrassil Street in Dundalk.
The Brief and Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao tells the story of a ghetto nerd Oscar, who is sweet but disastrously overweight, and living with his Dominican family in New Jersey.
He dreams of becoming the next J. R. R. Tolkien and he keeps falling hopelessly in love.
With dazzling energy and insight Díaz immerses readers in the tumultuous lives of Oscar; his runaway sister Lola; their beautiful mother Belicia; and in the family's uproarious journey from the Dominican Republic to the US and back.
Paul Hayes Director of An Táin Arts Centre and host of the book club, said: “All are welcome, you don’t have to have read the book to come along on the night and enjoy the chats.”
The book club is free and no booking is required, they do ask that members register via their website so that they can keep up to date with all book club news and avail of some exclusive book club offers.
