The February meeting was held in the Town Hall in Dundalk
Cllr Shane McGuinness has asked Louth County Council to look into a two hour parking limit in Blackrock, as a short term solution to deal with the lack of parking spaces available in the seaside village.
Cllr McGuinness raised the matter at the Dundalk Municipal District February meeting, saying that there was a meeting the previous week, organised by local community groups and attended by traders and businesses in the area, to discuss the issue.
The Fianna Fáil councillor said it was very difficult to find a solution to the lack of parking in Blackrock, when “there's 150 people working full time in Blackrock and 150 cars taking up spaces during the day, with no land designated previously for parking.”
The local councillor said that the meeting was a positive one that came up with both short term and long term solutions, and that the general consensus was that a two hour parking limit was a possible solution.
He added that people are parking in Blackrock to get buses to Dublin and to Dundalk and that the two hour limit might be a solution in the short term.
Replying to Cllr McGuinness, Senior Engineer Mark Johnston, agreed that there was little space available for parking, with no land available for it, adding that that the two hour parking limit was something that Louth County Council could look into.
