LMFM has announced that award-winning journalist Ken Murray is set to re-join the station and present the new 9:15-11am current affairs show 'The Agenda'.
Ken will replace former TV3 News journalist and presenter Alan Cantwell who has filled the slot since October, following the passing of Michael Reade.
Commenting on his appointment, Eamonn Doyle, Content Controller at LMFM said, “We are delighted to have a journalist of Ken's calibre join our programming team and we're looking forward to him tackling the local issues impacting our listeners across Louth and Meath."
Following a public competition, Ken was selected to take over the role and in doing so brings a wealth of journalistic experience across newspapers, magazines, radio, TV, digital and book publishing.
A former Political Correspondent with the now defunct INN Radio News, he spent 17 years in Leinster House and has had spells with BBC Northern Ireland, Sky News and RTE.
He has also been a regular commentator on Irish affairs for Politico.eu, Al Jazeera, TalkTV in London and TVP in Poland.
In 1990, he made media history when he won a Jacobs Radio Award while with LMFM. This was the first ever national accolade for a commercial broadcaster in Ireland and broke RTE’s then 28-year hold on the event.
In 2007, he won an Irish World Humanitarian Award in London for a radio report he did in 2003 which helped to locate the last missing next-of kin from the 1974 Dublin/Monaghan bombings.
In 2021, the Dublin-based Diplomatic Corps presented Ken with an award for the clarity he brought in his coverage for Euronews TV on the complexities of Brexit and its implications for the Irish economy.
Ken will continue to contribute on Irish affairs for Euronews TV and ITN Business in London.
He is also the author of 'All Kinds of Everything', the official biography of former MEP and twice Presidential candidate, Dana Rosemary Scallon.
Later this year, his latest books, namely the biography of Des Lee, a survivor of the 1975 Miami Showband massacre and separately, the 1976 controversial killings of the three Reavey Brothers by the UVF in South Armagh, will be published.
Ken holds a Masters Degree in Journalism from Dublin City University.
Speaking this week, he said, “I’m looking forward to the new role as I live outside Duleek and I’m fully familiar with the issues that are bothering residents in the Louth/Meath area.
“Micheal Reade set a high standard in terms of making local politicians accountable to their voters so he and Alan will be hard acts to follow so I can’t wait to take over the role and engage with listeners in the region every week.”
'The Agenda with Ken Murray' on LMFM commences on Monday, March 3, at 9.15am.
