The March meeting took place at the County Hall in Dundalk
The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage is to be called upon to agree targets for the Tenant in Situ Scheme and release funding to Louth County Council as a matter of urgency, following the adoption by members of a motion at the Louth County Council March meeting.
As the number of people presenting as homeless increases, Cllr Kevin Meenan brought forward a motion to this month’s County Council meeting stating that: "Louth County Council fully recognises the positive role the Tenant in Situ Scheme has played in preventing families entering homelessness.
"To prevent more families becoming homeless through no fault of their own, we call on the Department of Housing to agree targets for the scheme and release funding to Louth County Council as a matter of urgency."
Cllr Meenan acknowledged how successful the scheme was in the past and expressed his dismay at it being suspended last year but welcomed the support for his motion from all parties.
