A man who assaulted a shopkeeper after being refused entry as he was barred from the premises, was sentenced to two months at Dundalk District Court last week.
Beau Mullen (29) with an address at the time at Seatown Place, Dundalk was also charged with using threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour at X-L Stop 'N Shop on Jocelyn Street on July 13th 2022.
Last month the court heard gardai received a report at 8.30pm that a man was inside the shop being abusive and refusing to leave and when they arrived on the scene, the injured party said the defendant become extremely abusive and started to shout and swear when he attempted to usher him out the door and he had punched the man on the right side of his neck.
After hearing Mr. Mullen had addiction issues at the time and is currently serving a sentence, Judge Nicola Andrews adjourned the matter for the preparation of a victim impact statement.

When the case was called last Wednesday, court presenter Sgt. Letitia McConnell said the injured party did not wish to give a statement.
The Defence solicitor said that his client, who had written a letter of apology, had been through a lot, with his mother passing away over three months ago, and added he has made significant progress while in custody.
Judge Andrews imposed a two month sentence for the assault charge and a two thousand euro fine, with two days imprisonment in default and addressing Mr Mullen said “I hope you continue to do well in prison. It won't add to your time - best of luck”.
