Woman (51) fined for careless driving in Louth

Dundalk district court has heard how a motorist who sustained serious injuries in a collision had crossed onto the wrong side of the main Dundalk/Greenore road.

Siobhan Orsi (51) with an address at Merlyn Park, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4 was originally charged with dangerous driving on the R173 at Ballymascanlon on July 9th last, but a guilty plea to the lesser charge of careless driving was accepted by the State.

The court heard the Volvo she was driving was involved in a collision with a Scania lorry, with severe frontal impact to her car.
Both the lorry driver and two independent witnesses told gardai it had crossed onto the incorrect side of the road.

The Defence handed a letter into the court, which they said would set out the position.

Judge Stephanie Coggans heard Ms. Orsi had no previous convictions and was unwell at the time and having sustained significat injuries the mum of three has not been working since the accident.

Judge Coggans imposed a €300 fine but did not disqualify her from driving.
